Examining the texts in the textbooks of teaching Turkish to foreigners in terms of readability

This research, it is aimed to examine the texts in the textbooks of teaching Turkish to foreigners in terms of readability. For this purpose, a descriptive survey model was used in the research. In the research, the reading skills in the basic level (A1/A2), intermediate level (B1/B2) and advanced level (C1) textbooks of Yunus Emre Institute Yedi Iklim Turkish, Ege University Turkish for Foreigners, Dokuz Eylül University Izmir Turkish for Foreigners textbooks under the heading of reading skills were examined. 1024 texts analyzed through the formula developed by Ateşman (1997) were described with quantitative expressions and the determined levels were graphed as ratios.. As a result of the examination, it was concluded that the readability level of the A1-A2 level reading texts in the textbooks within the scope of the research is at an easy level. According to this result, it can be stated that the reading texts in the examined books are suitable for the basic level. The readability level of the B1-B2 level texts in the three books examined within the scope of the research was found to be of medium difficulty. With the change in the exchange rate in teaching Turkish to foreigners, the difficulty level of reading texts has increased. Although medium difficulty readability levels were detected in C1 level reading texts, very difficult readability rates were also found in reading texts at this level. The inclusion of difficult text examples at the C1 level can be explained by contributing to language development in advanced Turkish teaching. When the readability levels of the reading texts were compared in the study, it was concluded that the difficulty level in terms of readability at A1-A2, B1-B2-C1 levels increased regularly.
