Abstract (EN)

Bedside ultrasound-guided transvenous venous ports have recently been preferred, especially in patients receiving intermittent and long-term infusion therapy, due to patient comfort and low infection rates. In this way, a continuous open vascular access is provided in patients requiring long-term frequent treatment. We aimed to investigate the possible effects of this procedure on nitrosative stress and DNA damage in patients. Gaziantep University Emergency Department for the indication of port catheter insertion of 21 acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and 19 acute myeloblastic leukemia (AML) patients, a total of 40 patients, before and after insertion of the port catheter blood samples were taken; peroxynitrite (ONOO–), nitric oxide (NO●), malondialdehyde (MDA), 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-HdG) levels and nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity were measured. Serum NO●, NOS, MDA, 8-OHdG and ONOO– values were found to be significantly higher in the subsequent measurements (P <0.05). In conclusion, a treatment combined with antioxidant to minimize oxidative / nitrosative stress-induced damage may provide a strategy for the prevention of oxidative/nitrosative stress.
