Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of this study is to explore the predictive power of perceived parental attitudes and cognitive flexibility on adults' alexithymia levels. The participants of the study consist of 400 adults aged 18-65 living in Turkey. As the data collection, the demographic information form prepared by the researcher, the 20-item Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20) adapted to Turkish by Güleç et al. (2009), the Abbreviated Perceived Parental Attitudes Scale-Child Form (EMBU-C) adapted to Turkish by Dirik et al. (2015), and Cognitive Flexibility Inventory (CFI) adapted to Turkish by Sapmaz and Doğan (2013) were used. The data were analyzed with the SPSS 26.0 package program. The results of the data of the descriptive statistics, Independent Groups t-test, One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Post-Hoc techniques Tukey analysis, Pearson Product Moment Correlation, and Hierarchical Regression Analysis are presented in the tables. According to the results, the predictive role of perceived parental attitudes and cognitive flexibility on adults' alexithymia levels are found. The independent variables explain %33 of the total variance regarding the total alexithymia score of adults. Significant differences are found between the alexithymia levels of adults and the demographic variables of gender, age and education status; no significant difference is found between the marital status. The limitations and findings of the study are discussed according to the related literature. Along with these, suggestions for future research are presented.
