Abstract (EN)

Aim: This research was conducted to determine the relationship between physical restraint practices and care behaviors of intensive care nurses. Materials and Methods: The population of the study consisted of 123 nurses working in the intensive care unit of Sisli Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital between 01.04.2021 and 01.07.2021, it was aimed to reach the entire population without sampling and the study was completed with 115 nurses. The data were collected by face-to-face interview method with the Questionnaire, Caring Behaviors Scale-24 and Physical Restraint Application and Evaluation Scale prepared by the researcher. Research data were evaluated with descriptive statistics, arithmetic mean, standard deviation and independent groups t test and Pearson correlation analysis. The p<0.05 value was considered statistically significant in the evaluation. In order to carry out the study in a healthy way, written permissions were obtained from the institution where the study would be conducted with the approval dated 22.01.2021 from the Non-Invasive Clinical Research Ethics Committee of Aydın Adnan Menderes University Nursing Faculty. Results: It was determined that 87,9% of the nurses participating in the study were in the 20-29 age group, 81,7% were women and 85,2% were university graduates. It was found that 60% of the nurses had intensive care experience between 6 months and 1 year and 78,3% of them liked to work in the intensive care unit. It was determined that only 25,2% of the nurses received physical restraint training and 62% of the nurses who received the training received this training in the institution where they work. It was determined that there was a moderately positive and significant correlation between the scores obtained from the Nurses's Caring Behaviors Scale-24 and the scores they got from the Physical Restraint Application and Evaluation Scale (p<0.05, r=0,460). Conclusion: It has been concluded that the physical restraint practices and evaluations of nurses and their care behaviors are at a positive and acceptable level in many respects, and there are also situations that are not similar to the literature. It can be suggested that it is necessary to organize trainings on physical restraint, to eliminate the factors that reduce the care behavior of nurses, and to increase the studies to be done on the subject.
