Abstract (EN)

With the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), efforts were made to address the legal and practical voids in the country, and an authority was established to make urgent decisions on behalf of the nation. With the proclamation of the Republic, this authority began to function as a state and exercise its powers through separate organs. The legislative body could only operate through the diligent work of deputies in the TBMM. One of these deputies, Süleyman Sırrı İÇÖZ, began his duty with the opening of the TBMM in 1920 and served as a deputy until 1950, covering eight terms. Within the TBMM, he spoke on many issues including agriculture, finance, economy, public works, and law. He often had to defend matters related to mohair and the Mohair Association of Turkey, of which he was the chairman. Apart from mohair, he frequently spoke about the Retirement and Civil Servants Law and made legislative proposals. He was an exemplary figure both in his career before his deputyship and during his tenure, and was awarded the Independence Medal for his contributions to the National Struggle. In this study, the activities of Süleyman Sırrı İÇÖZ during the 5., 6., 7. and 8. Terms of the TBMM were researched, utilizing archival documents, parliamentary records, and research works.
