Spastik serebral palsili çocuklarda femoral anteversiyonun gövde kontrolü ve fonksiyonel mobilite üzerine etkisi

This study aimed to examine the effect of femoral anteversion on trunk control and functional mobility in children with spastic cerebral palsy (CP). Thirty spastic CP children aged between 5-12 at the level I and II according to the Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) was included in the study. Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) was used for the evaluation of spasticity of lower extremities. Children were separated into Group 1( FA≥30◦) and Group 2 (FA<30◦) as 15 children for each group according to femoral anteversion angles using Craig's Test. Demographic features and clinical information of the children were collected with a questionnaire which was applied to children's parents face to face. Trunk Impairment Scale (TIS) was used for trunk control evaluation; Pediatric Functional Reach Test (PFRT) and Modified Timed Up and Go (mTUG) test were used for the evaluation of the functional mobility of children. SPSS version 22.0 was used for statistical analysis. According to the results of the study; children in group 1 have statistically lower values of total scores and all subscales of TIS than children in group 2 (p<0.05). There were also statistically significant differences in PFRT and mTUG scores between the groups (p<0.05). For children with IFA; a strong negative correlation was found between the FA angle and TIS coordination (p<0.05). In the present study for all children; between the FA angle, PFRT and mTUG findings statistically significant correlations were found, however; for the children with IFA, there was no significant correlation between their FA angle, mTUG, PFRT scores (p>0.05). In conclusion; children with IFA; have more impaired trunk control and functional movement ability than children who have lower FA. IFA has a strong relationship with trunk coordination this might be as a result of pelvic rotation movements in children with spastic CP. Between the IFA and functional mobility; the relationship was not found in this study.

The effect of different visual stimuli provided by virtual reality on postural control in HEALTHY subject

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of the real environment image reflected in the virtual reality environment and the positive and negative feedbacks added to it on postural control. 20 healthy young people (F/M 10/10) aged between 18-30 years were included in the study. The visual stimuli in the virtual reality (VR) environment used in the study were created after modeling the laboratory environment where the study would take place and transforming this model three-dimensional (3D) with the Unity program. Participants were evaluated in a state of static balance in terms of the svay velocity, sway area and perimeter variables of the center of pressure (CoP) using Prokin PK 252 balance device under 5 different conditions: eyes open (EO), eyes closed (EC) and three VR images: laboratory environment image (VRL), positive (VRLP) and negative (VRLN) visual feedback added to this image. Statistical analysis of the data was performed using the SPSS analysis program using arithmetic mean, standard deviation, repeated ANOVA and Bonferroni method in multiple comparisons. CoP, Sway velocity, Sway area and Perimeter obtained as a result of five different visual stimuli (EO, EC, VRL, VRLP, VRLN) were compared. There was no significant difference between conditions in terms of the distance of the participants' average CoP values to the center (p>0,05). Although the Sway velocity was significantly lower in the EO condition (p<0,05), there was no significant difference between all other conditions in terms of sway velocity (p>0,05). The sway area and perimeter obtained at the EO were significantly decreased (p <0,05) and also the perimeter ah the EC were significantly increase (p<0.05). Although it was observed that the sway area in the EC was increased than the LVR, there was no significant difference (p> 0,05). It was found that the sway velocity, sway area and perimeter variables increased significantly in the VR compared to the EO, however this increase was less than the EC. In addition, it was observed that there was no significant difference between the visual feedback added to the VR environment(p>0,05).

Effects of sleep quality and daytime sleepiness on postural control in healthy young adults

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of sleep quality and daytime sleepiness on postural control in healthy young adults. 62 healthy young adults (age: 22.60±3.63, F/M 39/23) between the ages of 18-35 were included in the study. After collecting demographic data from the volunteers participating in the study, they were asked to fill out the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS). According to the scores obtained from the scales, the participants were divided into two groups as the control group (PSQI≤5, ESS≤10) and the evaluation group (PSQI>5, ESS>10). Then, dynamic balance assessments of the participants were made via the Prokin PK200. Balance measurements were performed with eyes open in three different ways: bipedal, on the right foot, and on the left foot. At the end of the measurements, Perimeter Length, Area Gap Percentage, Medium Speed, Medium equilibrium center-AP, and Medium equilibrium center-ML data were obtained. Statistical analysis of the data was made using IBM SPSS Statistics Ver. 23, the results of the analysis were given as arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and frequency distribution, and Independent Groups T-test and Mann Whitney-U test were used in the analysis. Spearman Correlation Analysis was used for the correlation analysis between sleep quality and dynamic balance data. As a result of the statistical analysis, statistically significant differences were observed between the two groups in the values of the perimeter length assessed on the right foot, medium speed assessed on the right foot, and area gap percentage assessed on the left foot (p<0.05). When the correlation analysis was examined, there were positive weak correlations between PSQI and perimeter length assessed on the right foot (r=.269, p=.034), medium speed assessed on the right foot (r=.273, p=.032), and a negative weak correlation between PSQI and area gap percentage assessed on left foot (r=-.255, p=.046). COVID-19 sürecinde ev kadinlarinda menopoz süresinin postür ve fonksiyonel aktivite üzerine etkisi

In the literature, there is no study related to the effect of duration of menopause on posture and functional activity in housewives. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of duration of menopause on posture and functional activity in housewives. Between December 2020 and November 2021, the research was carried out. The menopausal housewives (n=42) were included with an age range of 50-65. To evaluate the effect of the menopause period, the people were divided into two groups according to the duration of the menopause, 2-7 years (n=21) and 8-8+ years (n=21). Both groups provided demographic information and information of housework. New York Posture Rating was evaluated for the posture evaluation of the participants. depression was evaluated with Beck's depression inventroy and, quality of life was evaluated with Nottingham health profile. Using a JAMAR dynamometer, measurements were taken three times from both the dominant and non-dominant hand to assess handgrip strength. TUG and 5XSST were used three times each to evaluate their functional activities. The outcomes were then averaged. Each repetition was followed by a one-minute rest period. As a result of our study, it has been shown that the duration of menopause has no effect on posture and functional activity in housewives. Comparison of elderly living in nursing home and at home in terms of hand function

This study aims to examine the effects of the residence style of elderly individuals on the hand functions of the home environment and the nursing home. The study included 55 geriatric individuals (38F, 17M) aged 65 and over, living in Nezih Nursing Home and in their own home in Istanbul between October 2021 and December 2021. Individuals were separated into two groups according to their type of residence. The elderly participants were determined that live in a nursing home as Group 1 (n=27; 79.3±7.52 years), and the elderly living at home as Group 2 (n=28, 75.32±7.25 years). Mini Mental State Examination was applied to evaluate the cognitive function levels of individuals, and the Nottingham Sensory Assessment was used to assess the sensory state of the hand. Purdue Pegboard Test was used to assess hand dexterity. To evaluate the muscle strength of the hand, Hand Grip Strength Evaluation with a hand dynamometer and Joint Range Of Motion Evaluation with a goniometer to evaluate the range of motion of the wrist joint were performed. As a result of the study, when the two groups were compared, a statistically significant difference was found in the tactile and stereognosis, the hand dexterity, the hand strength, and right hand ulnar deviation scores of range of motion (p<0.05). Lifestyle affects hand functions, and the hand dexterity, strength and joint functions of the elderly living at home are better than those living in a nursing home. COVID 19 döneminde yetişkin sağlikli kadinlarda düzenli yoga yapmanin postür ve denge üzerine etkisi

This study was aimed to investigate the effectiveness of yoga on posture and balance in healthy adult women during Covid-19. 42 volunteer women between the ages of 25-45 who regularly do or do not do yoga participated in the study. Subjects were divided into two groups those who do yoga regularly (n=21) and those who do not (n=21). New York Posture Rating Scale, One-leg stand test, Y balance test, Functional Reach test, Fingertip-to-floor test, Quality of life Short Form 36 (SF 36) test, Beck Depression test, muscle strength and 30-second Sit and Stand test, and Modified Push-up test were evaluated for both of the groups. Independent T-test, Mann-Whitney-U test and Chi-square tests were used to compare the groups as statistical analyses. A statistically significant difference was observed in the New York Posture Rating score of the groups (p<0.05). It was found that the group doing yoga differed significantly in dynamic balance, flexibility, posture, and depression measurements compared to the group that did not do yoga (p<0.05). In addition, the physical function, limitations in physical activities because of health problems, role limitations because of emotional problems, social function, energy-fatigue, general health perceptions of the yoga group were also found to be statistically significant (p<0.05). In addition, it was observed that the static balance, bodily pain and mental health measures of the participants did not show a statistically significant difference between the groups (p>0.05). As a result of our study, we found that yoga had a positive effect on posture, dynamic balance, flexibility, muscle strength, endurance, and quality of life in healthy adult women. Effects of sedentary lifesytle on neck pain and sleep quality during COVID-19 pandemic

The objective of the study is to understand the impact of sedentary life on sleep quality, neck pain and perceived stress. Five hundered twelve participants included in the study. The participants were aged from 18 to 28. The survey created with google forms was sent to the participants and the data was gathered. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF) was used to identify the activity level in metabolic equivalent of task (MET), the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) was used for the perceived stress levels, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to evaluate the sleep quality. The Neck Bournemouth Questionnaire (NBQ) was used for the level of neck pain. The demographic data and screen time informations were collected with a questionnarie. Three different groups were formed from the participants based on their total physical activity scores (TPAS), as physically inactive (TPAS<600 MET), low physical activity level (TPAS 600-3000 MET), and adequate physical activity level (TPAS>3000). SPSS ver. 23.0 was used for statistical analysis. A statistically significant difference was found between the sitting time and PSS between the groups (p<0.05); there was no statistical significant relationship between screen time, NBQ and PSQI score between the groups (p>0.05). A negative correlation was found between TPAS of all participants in the study and NBQ, PSS score and sitting time. As a result of in-group analysis, a statistically significant relationship was found between NBQ and PSQI score (p<0.05), NBQ and PSS score (p<0.05), and PSS and PSQI score (p<0.05).

The effect of manual ability and upper extremity function on participation and quality of life in children with spastic cerebral palsy

The purpose of this study was investigating the effect of manual ability and upper extremity function on participation and quality of life in children with spastic cerebral palsy (CP). 30 children with CP aged between 4 -12, have Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) 1-3 and Manual Ability Classification System MACS) level 1-3 were included to study. Demographic information of the participants was collected by asking the family face to face. In addition to MACS, Box Block Test (BBT) was used to evaluate manual ability for both dominant and non dominant hand. Quality of Upper Extremity Skills Test (QUEST) was utilized to evaluate upper extremity functions. The Cerebral Palsy Quality of Life Questionaire - Child Primary Caregivers (CPQOL), a disease-specific scale, was administered with the help of the family to evaluate the quality of life (QOL) in children. Participation assessment was completed with the help of the family by applying the Participation and Environment Measure - Children and Youth (PEM CY) scale. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 25. According to the results, there is no correlation between manual ability and quality of life (p>0.05). A correlation was found between the average frequency of home participation, the family's desire for change and manual ability, and between upper extremity skills and the family's desire to change subtest of PEM CY (p<0.05). In school participation there was a correlation between QUEST test and desire to change subtest of PEMCY. No relationship was found between community participation and manual ability and upper extremity functionality (p>0.05). There was moderate positive correlation between PEM CY and CPQOL in many subtests. To conclude, manual ability, upper extremity functions are not correlated to QOL. Manual ability and upper extremity functions are correlated with only some aspects of participation. Quality of life was found to be moderately correlated with participation in this study. Examination of the relationship between functional movement screening test scores and lower extremity injury risk of the elite candidate male footballers playing in U19 and U13 groups

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the functional movement screen test scores of elite male football players playing in the U19 and U13 groups and the risk of lower extremity injury. The study was conducted with the retrospective data of 13-19 age group male elite candidate athletes (n=41) playing football in the development leagues determined by the Turkish Football Federation, affiliated to the Galatasaray Football Academy, in the 2018-2019 season. Functional movement screen (FMS) battery was used to determine the functional movement levels of the football players. The movements in the applied test are, respectively, deep squat, hurdle step, in-line lunge, shoulder mobility, active straight leg raise, trunk stability push-up, rotary stability. Participants were informed about the test before the measurements began, and then demonstrated as a practice. Each movement was repeated three times during the application of the test. The scores that can be obtained from the test range from 0 to 21. In the study, there was a positive and weak correlation between age and deep squat (r = .368; p<0.05), positive and moderate correlation between active straight leg raise (r = .474; p<0.05), positive and weak correlation between rotary stability (r = .363; p<0.05), and a positive and weak (r = .400; p<0.05) correlation was detected between total FMS score. When the FMS scores of the U13 football players were examined, it was seen that the highest score was shoulder mobility, the lowest score was the active straight leg raise test, while the U19 footballers got the highest score from shoulder mobility and the lowest score was from the deep squat test. As a result of the study, it was determined that the deep squat, straight forward, active straight leg raising, rotary stability and total FMS score of the U19 football players were significantly higher than the U13 football players (p<0.05). In addition, the total FMS scores of the injured players were found to be lower and below 14 points compared to the players who did not have any injuries.

Examination of university level volleyball players in terms of ankle functions and postural control variables

Ankle functions and postural control ability have great importance to understand the skills for the sport of volleyball. Purpose: The aim of the study was to examine different ankle functions and postural stability variables of volleyball players and healthy students. Method: The participants (21.18  1.76 year olds, F, n=40) included in the study were divided into two groups as volleyball (VG; n=20) and control (CG; n=20). Postural control variables (sway velocity, area of displacement and perimeter) was evaluated by static stability test (PK Prokin 252 stabiliometer). Ankle range of motion (ROM), joint position sense (JPS), vibration and strength measurements were evaluated. The Independent Sample T-test, Mann Whitney U test, and the Spearman Correlation Coefficient was used for statistical analysis. Results: Between the groups, significant differences were observed in dorsiflexion, eversion and inversion ROM, JPS, vibration sense in the 1st and 5th toe, dorsiflexor and plantar flexor isometric muscle strength and postural stability variables (p<0.05). The sway velocity was correlated with dorsiflexion ROM and invertion isometric muscle strength, the perimeter with eversion ROM, JPS at the 130 and 140 of ankle and vibration sense from the forefoot (p<0.05). The area of displacement was correlated with eversion ROM, dorsiflexor and evertor isometric muscle strength (p<0.05). Conclusion: Volleyball players have different ankle functions and better postural stability than healthy controls. Postural stability variables have been shown to be correlated with ankle functions. The examination of postural stability variables in athletes may be a marker in preventing sports-specific ankle injuries.

The relationship between sensory and psychological components of pain in elite level volleyball players: A prospective cohort study

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between the sensory and psychological components of pain in elite-level volleyball players. In the study 21 (9 male, 12 female) elite-level volleyball players take part between the ages of 18-35. The pain threshold and tolerance values were evaluated by cold pressor test (CPT) to evaluate the sensory component of pain. Athletes' pain beliefs, pain catastrophization, psychological strain, and anxiety were evaluated to evaluate the psychological components. The data were collected during four months in three measurements to investigate these parameters' relationship over a half athletic season. Statistical data analysis was performed using the SPSS analysis program using mean and standard deviation. Repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for comparisons of scale scores at measurement times. In case of significant results, multiple comparisons were made with the Bonferroni test. Psychologic and sensory data obtained from each measurement were compared. The relationships between numerical variables were evaluated with Pearson correlation coefficient There was no significant difference in athletes' pain catastrophizing and psychological strain between measurement times (p>0.05). In the first measurement, athletes had significantly higher pain thresholds and tolerance levels, with male athletes showing higher mean values than female athletes. (p<0.05). The concentration disruption was higher in the first measurement, and female athletes had a higher mean value than male athletes (p<0.05). Organic beliefs correlated negatively with the pain threshold and tolerance, while psychological beliefs correlated negatively with pain tolerance (p<0.05). It was found to be that pain tolerance is more related to the psychological components of pain.

Effects of neurodynamic techniques (ULTT1) for median nerve on the carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms

The aim of our study was to investigate sensory evaluation; light touch sensation on median nerve innervated areas of the hand and joint position sense (JPS) of wrist after by using Upper Limb Tension Test for median nerve (ULTT1) in healthy subjects who have CTS symptoms. The 32 healthy subjects aged between 21-63 years were participated to study according to higher than 11 points and lesser than 46 points from Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ) included. The demographic features of subjects (age, gender, height, body weight, health problems) and Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS) scores were recorded. Participants were treated with ULTT1 which consisted of 12 repetitions and 15-20 seconds for each repetition after by baseline measurements which are Semmes –Weinstein Monofilament (SWM), JPS and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) are taken. Immediately after therapy and 1-week after therapy SWM, JPS and VAS evaluations were taken and values were recorded. According to the results of the study, there was a meaningful decrease in pain status both immediately and 1-week after therapy (p<0.05). In accordance with sensory evaluations; SWM was improved both thumb and index finger also JPS was improved in 45ᵒ and 20ᵒ flexion degrees and 20ᵒ extension degrees (p<0.05).

Dikkatin postüral kontrol üzerindeki etkisi

Dikkat Eksikliği ve Hiperaktivite Bozukluğu (DEHB), yetişkinlikte de devam edebilen ve dikkati ile motor kontrolü etkileyen bir nörogelişimsel bozukluktur. DEHB'li çocuklarda denge sorunları iyi belgelenmiş olmasına rağmen, yetişkinlerle ilgili araştırmalar sınırlıdır. Postüral kontrol özellikle ikili görev (dual-task) koşullarında dikkat katılımı gerektirir. Bu çalışma, Erişkin Dikkat Eksikliği ve Hiperaktivite Bozukluğu Kendi Bildirim Ölçeği (ASRS) ile belirlenen erişkin potansiyel DEHB özellilkli (pDEHBö) bireylerde, fiziksel ve bilişsel yükün denge üzerindeki etkisini incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Çalışmada 18–30 yaş aralığındaki katılımcılar ASRS puanlarına göre iki gruba ayrılmıştır: Grup 1 (ASRS >14; n=21) ve Grup 2 (ASRS <14; n=21). Bilişsel performansı değerlendirmek için Sürekli Dikkat Yanıt Görevi (SART) kullanılmıştır. Postüral kontrol değişkenleri, anteriyor-posteriyor (A-P) ve mediyal-lateral (M-L) salınım hızı ile basınç merkezi (CoP) alanı, ProKin 252 stabilometresi ile farklı duruş pozisyonlarında (iki ayak, tandem, yumuşak zemin), gözler açık ve kapalı şekilde, sözel çift görev (geriye doğru sayma) eşliğinde ve görev olmadan ölçülmüştür. Veriler, post-hoc karşılaştırmaları için Bonferroni düzeltmesi ile tek yönlü ANOVA kullanılarak analiz edildi. SART sonuçlarına göre Grup 1, daha fazla hata yapmış ve daha uzun tepki süresi göstermiştir (p<0.05). Postüral olarak, Grup 1'in, gözler açık durumdayken iki ayak ve tandem duruşlarda, çift görev esnasında CoP alanı anlamlı şekilde artmıştır (p = 0.048; p = 0.047); gözler kapalı tandem duruşta da benzer bir artış gözlenmiştir (p=0.040; p=0.020). A-P ve M-L salınım hızlarında anlamlı fark saptanmamıştır. Bu bulgular, pDEHBö bilişsel yükün dengeyi olumsuz etkilediğini göstermektedir. Bu nedenle, bu bireyler için müdahale programlarına denge eğitiminin dahil edilmesi faydalı olabilir.

Investigation of the effect of two types of locomotion in the virtual environment in terms of postural stability and cybersickness

Cybersickness is a significant challenge limiting the broader adoption of virtual reality (VR) involving head-mounted displays (HMDs), in medical applications. The sensory conflict caused by HMDs can lead to symptoms like motion sickness and affect postural control. Locomotion is one factor that may help decrease these symptoms. This study aims to evaluate the effects of two locomotion types—walking in place (WIP) and standing (STD)—on postural control and cybersickness. Forty-one healthy young adults (21 female, 20 male) participated in this study. They immersed in a VR environment using Meta Oculus 2 HMDs for 15 minutes on two separate sessions, experiencing both locomotion types. Postural control was measured using a stabilimeter, while cybersickness symptoms were assessed with the Simulator Sickness Questionnaire (SSQ) before and after each session. The results revealed no significant difference in cybersickness between the two locomotion methods. However, a higher disorientation score and a significantly increased total SSQ score were observed after the STD experience. In terms of postural control, no significant difference was found between the two locomotion types either. Specifically, postural control measures taken while wearing the HMD showed a significant rise in mediolateral velocity following the STD locomotion experience. These results offer valuable insights into the connection between postural control and cybersickness, highlighting the role of body involvement in the VR experience.

Comparison of effects of balance and strengthening training in terms of proprioception in people with chronic ankle instability

In literature, it has been seen that there is no sufficient evidence about which training method is more useful for improving balance and proprioception in people with chronic ankle instability (CAI). Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the differences of balance and strengthening trainings on ankle proprioception in people with CAI. This study was conducted with 29 (21 F, 8 M) physical active volunteers between the ages of 18-30 between December 2019 and May 2020. Participants whose demographic information and Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool (CAIT) scores, for assessment functional ankle instability, were received, were randomly divided into two treatment groups as strengthening training group (SG, n: 14) and balance trainng group (BG n: 15). Y Balance Test (YBT) and proprioception/vibration evaluations were conducted within the scope of dynamic balance and somatosensory evaluations respectively. The methodology adopted in this study for the evaluations includes joint position sense (JPS) measurements for the proprioception and 128 Hz. vibration fork for the vibration sense evaluations. Evaluations were applied at the beginning and at the end of the treatment. Participants of the BG were taken under hop to stabilization exercises and participants of the SG to TheraBand exercises. In both groups exercises were completed with unstable ankle. Participants attend all sessions which are held two days a week for six weeks and each session lasted approximately 35 minutes. At the end of the study, differences between pre and post-treatment results were analysed and the data from two groups were compared. Although there is no significant difference was found between two groups on the dynamic balance, SG showed a statistically more significant improvement on JPS (140°) and vibration sense (fifth toe) (p<0.05). In conclusion the study showed that the strengthening exercises applied with TheraBand have similar effects to balance exercises in developing dynamic balance, but are more effective on vibration sense and JPS.

Difference in occupational health among physiotherapists: A descriptive cross-sectional survey

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are highly prevalent among healthcare professionals, with physiotherapists (PTs) at particular risk due to repetitive manual tasks, awkward postures, and heavy lifting. Although numerous studies report elevated WMSD rates, few have examined how psychosocial factors—namely burnout and job satisfaction—interact with physical activity levels and musculoskeletal health in Turkey. This cross-sectional survey aimed to investigate these interrelationships among Turkish PTs. Between August and December 2024, 162 PTs employed in hospitals, clinics, and rehabilitation centers completed an online questionnaire comprising the Extended Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ-E), Short Index of Job Satisfaction (SIJS), Burnout Assessment Tool (BAT), and International Physical Activity Questionnaire – Short Form (IPAQ-SF). Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression were performed. The most frequently reported pain sites were the neck (74.1 %), lower back (73.5 %), and shoulders (58.6%). No burnout symptoms were observed, alongside relatively high job satisfaction. Pearson's correlation revealed significant negative associations between job satisfaction and both core burnout (r = –0.268, p < .001) and secondary burnout (r = –0.166, p = .034), as well as with total WMSD regions (r = –0.259, p < .001). In regression analysis, secondary burnout symptoms emerged as a strong predictor of musculoskeletal complaints (F = 13.073, p < .001). No significant relationships were found between physical activity levels and burnout, job satisfaction, or WMSDs. These findings underscore the multifaceted nature of occupational health among PTs. Interventions should address both psychological stressors and ergonomic risks to enhance well-being and reduce WMSD burden in this workforce.
