COVID-19 pandemisi döneminde, pandemi hastanesinde görevli sağlık çalışanlarının; psikososyal etmenleri ve stresle baş etme yöntemlerinin değerlendirilmesi

Coronavirus Anxiety Scale were filled out. The chi-squared test, Mann-Whitney U test, and logistic regression analysis were conducted to evaluate these questionnaires. When the variables of sociodemographic data, job information, and active duty in COVID-19 areas were examined, the anxiety levels of those who took more duties in COVID-19 areas were found to be significantly higher. Furthermore, while the anxiety and psychosocial risk levels of those who exhibited a self-confident and optimistic approach in ways of coping with stress were found to be lower, these risks were revealed to be significantly higher in those who exhibited a desperate approach and a submissive approach. Healthcare workers' ways of coping with stress determine how much they will protect themselves against psychosocial risks during the pandemic. It can be stated that participants who define their general health risk levels as low are more resistant to the psychological effects of COVID-19 disease.

Effects of pre-hospital management of diarrheal dehydration by a first responder on infant mortality

Dehydration has been one of the major causes of death in children under the age of five till date. According to the World Health Organization, dehydration takes the lives of approximately 525,000 children each year. Pakistan, a developing country, has the fourth highest child mortality rate worldwide. This thesis is a case-control study conducted in rural areas of Islamabad. The research population consists of 100 patients who died as a result of dehydration or who were hospitalized in a critical condition, and 100 control groups who also had less episodes of diarrhea. The data of the study were collected between February 2021 and February 2022. To determine the importance of rehydration therapy and its role in infant mortality, a comprehensive questionnaire was prepared and administered to the participants' primary caregivers. In the findings, a significant relationship was found between the administration of oral rehydration at home and the course of the disease, and improvement was observed in 92% of these infants (p value < 0.05). The most severe manifestations of dehydration were seen in the presence of convulsions, sunken fontanel, or a combination of significant symptoms. On the other hand, no relationship was found between demographic characteristics such as age, gender, caregiver's relationship with the baby, the region of residence and family type, and the course of the disease. In conclusion, the findings of this study are important to promote the use of oral rehydration therapy for children under 5 years of age and raise awareness about it.

Effects of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on food security in Nigeria

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and comprehend how they impact food security and policies. A web-based survey was used in this cross-sectional investigation. The staff of the Ministry of Agriculture in Abuja (FMARD), Nigeria were chosen as the study population since they represent a significant part of the population and are well-informed about implemented food policies in the country (n=630). Data were analyzed using Inferential and Descriptive methods. OLS regression analysis was used to estimate COVID-19 effects on Food Security and Food Policy. Most respondents were between ages 26-35 with a mean income of N172,000. For the food security model, the results revealed that Covid-19 had a significant negative impact (β = -0.111, 95% CI, -0.173 to -0.049, R2= 60.1%, F-ratio=5.9, p < 0.001), indicating that the pandemic was associated with decreased food security. Of the demographic factors, only age and years of experience (p < 0.05) were also significant predictors. In the food policy model, Covid-19 was found to have a significant negative association (β = -0.037, 95% CI, -0.051 to -0.023, R2= 57.1%, F-ratio=18.755, p < 0.001) among FMARD members. Only age and level of education (p < 0.001) were significant predictors, indicating that older members with higher education levels had a greater influence on food policy decisions. In summary, these findings reveal the negative impact of Covid-19 on food security and policy decisions within this group. It also contributes to a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding food security and policy, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions and policies to address these challenges. Keywords: Covid-19, Pandemic, Food security, Food Policy, Agriculture.

Knowledge, attitudes, and practice of oncology health care providers in promoting healthy eating habits among oncology patients in Nigeria

Abubakar, A (2024). Knowledge, attitudes, and practice of oncology health care providers in promoting healthy eating habits among oncology patients in Nigeria. Yeditepe University, Institute of Health Science, Department of Public Health. MSc Thesis Diet plays a crucial role in cancer prevention, with research suggesting it can prevent 30-50% of all cancer cases. However, dietary guidelines may only sometimes apply due to different eating habits and food availability. Traditional African diets in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) are rich in starches and local foods, unlike Western diets, which are high in processed animal products, refined sugars, and saturated fats. Despite the rising cancer incidence in SSA, few studies have explored the link between diet and cancer risks. A cross-sectional survey of 200 Nigerian healthcare providers in oncology departments examined their dietary knowledge, attitudes, and practices. The participants, averaging 32 years old, mostly held undergraduate degrees (69.2%), some held graduate degrees (30.2%), and over 84% were employed by government organizations. This study aimed to evaluate healthcare policies and provide quantitative insights into the dietary knowledge and practices within oncology departments, identifying challenges in implementing dietary recommendations and the effectiveness of educational resources. In Nigeria, cancer care faces numerous challenges, including uncoordinated data, lack of trained staff, poor health infrastructure, political apathy, and inadequate procurement systems. Despite these issues, cancer registries are improving. Early diagnosis, population screening, and managing symptomatic patients are vital for better outcomes, with nutritional interventions being critical for cancer prevention and treatment. Key Words: Cancer, Diet, Sub Saharan Africa, Healthcare providers, Diagnosis, Health care, Knowledge, Attitudes, Practice, Oncology, Nutritional interventions.
