Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to determine the physical and physiological effects of exercises performed according to the Tabata protocol in overweight and obese children. For this purpose, a total of 24 (Male=12, Female=12) participants in the 12-14 age range who voluntarily participated in the study were assigned as the experimental group (n=12) and the control group (n=12) with equal numbers of males and females in the groups. divided into two groups using the random method. An exercise program was prepared according to the Tabata protocol was applied to the participants in the experimental group, 3 days a week for 8 weeks. No training was done with the participants in the control group. Preliminary data of height, trunk test, BMI, body fat ratio, resting heart rate and VO2Max measurement and pretest-posttest applications were taken. SPSS 25.0 program was used in the interpretation of the data. Due to the small number of subjects, Non-Parametric tests were used in the statistical analysis of the data. Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was used to detect within-group differences, and Kruskal Wallis-H and Mann Whitney-U tests were used to detect differences between groups. The significance level of 0,05 was accepted in the determination of the differences between the variables in statistical procedures. It was found out that the 8-week exercise applied according to the Tabata protocol, significantly decreased the body weight, BMI, body fat ratio and resting heart rate, and significantly increased the VO2Max scores statistically in the experimental group statistically. (p<0.05). A significant increase was observed in the body weight and body fat ratios of the control group during the 8-week period (p<0.05). There was no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group pretest-posttest data (p>0.05). As a result, it can be said that exercises prepared according to the Tabata protocol applied for 8 weeks in overweight and obese children can positively effects the health status of individuals by reducing body weight, BMI, body fat ratio and resting heart rate, and also aerobic stamina by increasing VO2Max scores.
