Abstract (EN)

Music has undergone changes from the birth of art to the present day with different stages, cultures and ethnicities. Many cultural structures have their own unique characteristics in this field where we express our emotions and thoughts. When we look at the works that enable us to understand our own culture and tradition, the emotions they evoke in us are often the same and this is the common element of art, although their purposes may differ. Classical Turkish Music is an important music genre that emerged in these lands incorporating various forms, modes and rhythms. Since the 19th century, it has also interacted with Classical Western Music. Therefore, the forms, techniques, and specific characteristics of Classical Turkish music and Classical Western music should be examined and common collaborations should be facilitated. This study aims to provide a basic guide for both sides to understand each other in a geography where Classical Turkish music culture thrives but where Classical Western music education, performers, and composers are also prevalent. The reason behind this is the linguistic comprehension between two countries existing in the same society, thereby facilitating the documentation of individuals in shared spaces. The modal structure of classical Turkish music and the tone-based system of Western music constitute the fundamental characteristics of these musical traditions. By examining the foundational elements of both musical processes, the significant historical developments from the 17th century to the present have been compared in the study, and additionally, formal, melodic structures and forms have been determined comparatively at a basic level. Keywords: Western: classical music, Turkısh classical music, analysis, form, genre.
