Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, itineraries written or translated into English of travellers who paid visits to Anotilia in 19th century for different reasons have been studied and therefore information about social, cultural and economical life of Turks and non-muslims was given. Explorers who move abroad to find unknown, missioneirs that try to put across their beliefs to distant people, scientists that organise tours to make professional improvements and soldiers who have to leave their land for the sake of their duty, Turkey became popular for these especially in the second quarter of 19th century. English, American, French, Italian and many more travellers, due to both their countries' relations with Turkey and religious beliefs, could not become objective in their evaluations. But considering the findings in the notes of 115 travellers, it is strongly possible to generalise some topics. While notes on travellers, their writings and their biographies form the first chapter of the thesis, the process of their voyage, experiences and the behaviours of natives towards them fall into the second one. Comprised of five chapters; social, cultural and economical state of Anatolia in 19th century were reflected in the remained parts.
