1955 Cyprus crisis and the reaction Turkish public opinion

Cyprus; starting at the first Ages, hosted many countries upto now. The thing that makes Cyprus Island attractive is it geographical and strategical position. Ottoman Empire had ruled the most in this Island. Later on, end of the1877-1878 Ottoman-Russian War,Ottoman Empire in cured losses and under difficult circumstances, Ottoman Empirefirstly, had torent the Cyprus Island to England. After than along with the Lausanne Treaty, Ottoman Empire had to leavethe Cyprusrule of England completely. Afterthe Second World War, Greece focused on Cyprus, which was the under administration of England. And under the name of "Megali Idea'' to annex the Cyprus, Greece took actionalong with Rum community whom living in Cyprus. This action was named Enosis. Enosis, especially by 1950 at the term of Demokrat Party Government, had started to show effect smore and they had turned to bloody attacks. Enosis Rums who are trying to exterminate Turkish population in Cyprus, Turkish people didn't stay silent and took action to turn back Rums from decision of their Enosis of which caused Turkish peop lespersecution. Turkish Government followed moderate policy about Cyprus until August of 1955. After the ever increasing reactions of Turkish People about Cyprus and then EOKA's in creasing terror happenings against Turkish People in Cyprus. Finally, at the eve of Lausanee Conference at the date of 28th August in 1955, a planned massacre against Turkish People in Cyprus which is heard and got about, too. This made Turkish Government's moderate policy deterred towards Greece. Right after the heard of massacre, Adnan Menderes, at the night of 24th August in 1955, he uttered his historic Cyprus declaration in Limon Restaurant, İstanbul. In this declaration, it had been emphasized that Cyprus will never ever been annexed to Greece. After thes peech of Adnan Menderes, Turkish People who had shown their pleasure and happiness to Adnan Menderes by sending letters and telegraphs right after his declaration. They had emphasized to support Government forever because of their desicion about Cyprus Issue.
