Abstract (EN)
Fifth generation (5G) wireless communication systems are developing rapidly to provide solutions to the problems arising from previous communication technologies. Interest in 5G communication systems has increased due to reasons such as low data transfer rate, increase in data transfer capacity, and increase in the number of users. The millimeter waveband provides a wide frequency band for 5G technologies. It is aimed to increase the capacity with the use of high frequency values. Antennas designed with the use of millimeter wavebands have the advantages of being preferred such as being small in size, easy to mount on communication tools, not disrupting the structure of the device, being produced at low costs, and being able to operate in a wide frequency range. In this thesis, 28/38 GHz dual band microstrip patch antenna design was made for 5G wireless communication systems using DGS (Defected Ground Structure) and slot loading techniques. To improve the design, the parameters are optimized with the help of CST Studio Suite. In this study, a compact microstrip patch antenna operating between 17.62 GHz and 39.82 GHz was designed using CST Microwave Studio Suite software. As the substrate material, FR-4 with a height of 1.6 mm, a dielectric constant of 4.4 and a rectangular geometry of 4.6x3.5 mm2 was used. The designed microstrip antenna consists of circular slits opened on the circular patch connected to the rectangular shaped feed line. With the help of DGS (Defected Ground Structure) technique on the ground plane, 18.34 GHz S11 -10 dB bandwidth was obtained. Thus, a high-bandwidth millimeter wave microstrip antenna operating at 28/38 GHz is designed. The return losses of the antenna at 28/38 GHz frequencies were determined as 10.73 dB and 14.22 dB, respectively. Performance parameters such as gain, VSWR (Voltage Standing Wave Ratio), radiation diagram are presented graphically. The advantages and disadvantages of the antenna presented in this study are given by comparing with similar antenna designs in the literature operating at 28/38 GHz frequencies.
