Examination of the texts in 6th grade Turkish coursebooks in terms of values education and evaluation in context of teachers opinions

The purpose of the study is to examine the texts in 6th grade Eksen Publishing Turkish coursebook in terms of values education and evaluate in context of teachers opinions. İn this research that was arranged with qualitative method, semi-structured interview and document examination methods were used for data collection. In the study as a document, Eksen Publishing 6th grade Turkish coursebook were used Also in order to learn valve perceptions of teachers and to find out their throughts about the texts in coursebook for value transfering, some interviews with Turkish teachers were done using semi-structured interview forms. As a result, evaluations done by researher were accomplished with also using experts views. In 40 texts in 6th grade Eksen Publishing Turkish coursebook, 247 values sentences were detected. Most found value with 26 values sentences was "responsibility". Next one was "patriotism" with 21 value point. "Love" and "respect" follow them with 20 points. In the texts, "developing aesthetic feelings" and "modesty" values could never be seen. The type of the texts that has most values was stories with 116 value points. The least ones were poems with 46 points. In informative and story type texts, most used value was "responsibility". In poems, it was "patriotism". When teachers views were examined, most values coming to mind of teachers were "tolerance, "love" and "charity". Teachers also stated some negative opinions. Those are "values limited only in education" "not caring values education enough" and "ignoring values due to systematical problems." It was seen that teachers want the value "respect" most that should be included in texts. As a result of interviews, values should be given via the texts in coursebooks. Also while transfering values, acting, question and answer, and discussion etc. Techniques are useful.
