Examination of 8th grade students' usage of technology in the context of self confidence and parental attitudes

This research has been processed in order to investigate the usage of technology within the frame of self-esteem and family attitudes in 8th grade students in Beşiktaş province. The sample of the research was 8 th class students in İstanbul-Beşiktaş in 2016-2017 academic year. In this research simple random sampling methodology was used and 100 samples were analyzed. Survey screening has been used in this study. In this context, a sociodemographic form and two scales were submitted to students. Scales used in this study were Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and Parental Attitudes Scale. In scope of research, data were analyzed with SPSS 21 Program. Frequency-analysis, percent analysis, arithmetic mean, standard deviation and the tests of Kruskal-Wallis H and Mann-Whitney U were used for the statistical analysis. In order to determine the relation between parental attitudes and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, Spearman Correlation analyze was used. Cronbach's Alpha reliability analyze was used to test the reliability of the results. Significance level has been taken as p>.005 in this analyze. Results of the study show that, self- esteem of eighth-grade students are in the intermediate level. In addition to that, students described the parental attitudes as a highly democratic. Also participants of survey who were women had a higher sense of authoritative and protective- willing parental attitude. Otherwise it was determined that as the time of internet use increased, self- esteem of the students decreased. Students who used the internet more than others perceived the parental attitudes as an authoritative and protective- willing. Additionally according to this research democratic parental attitudes increased the self-esteem of the students. Finally, a positively high significance has been determined between self- esteem and parental attitudes.
