The effects of educational coaching in success of eighth grade students

Coaching is an effective process ensuring continuous learning and self-improvement. Coaching is also directed the individuals to goals they want to achieve. Coaching is to share mutual experience and opinion in order to achieve the targets agreed with the coach and coachee. Educational coaching aims raising the students' academic performance and achieving their goals. Educational coaching is a structured developmental interaction process based on providing students discover their strengths and weaknesses and find solutions to problems. This study was conducted in experimental pattern which is one of the quantified research designs. In this study it was aimed to reveal the effect of educational coaching on students' academic achievement and examination scores. The sampling group consist of 116 eighth grade students attending public schools and preparing TEOG examinations in Trabzon 2015-2016 academic year. 58 of the students are in the experimental and 58 of them are in control group. The data consist of the Mathematics, Science and the Turkish lessons' scores and the TEOG exam scores. In the coaching process conducted within the Trabzon Faroz Consulting Office the students in sampling groups inserted their examination scores in the information-gathering tool delivered to them. This research differs from other researches on this topic because this study is an experimental research based on the practice. The findings show that educational coaching improves students' academic achievement. It is not a statistically significant difference observed in average scores related to academic success and academic achievement in terms of gender but only for the Turkish course a statistically significant difference is observed in favour of the girls.
