Abstract (EN)
Although Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder is one of the most studied and researched subjects in recent years, and the problem is quite common, the statistics fail to reflect the situation. The reasons for this disorder are still being investigated, but it became definite that drug treatment together with supplementary treatment methods gives positive results. Sometimes the existence of other diseases seen together with this problem, create difficulties in diagnosing and treatment methods. A good treatment process starts only after a good diagnose. The aim of this study is to determine the effects of the anxiety state and attitude of the parents of the children who are diagnosed with ADHD affecting the self-perception of these children as one the factors affecting the said self-image. The study comprises of 38 children who applied to the Bezmialem Vakif Univesity Hospital and diagnosed with the ADHD in accordance with the DSM-V criteria (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition), and 67 children attending Selim Sirri Tarcan Primary School who are also diagnosed with the ADHD. This study used especially personal information form and also Family and child rearing attitude scale, Piers Harris children's self-concept scale, Conners Parents and Teachers Assessment Scale, strengths and difficulties questionnaire and Beck Anxiety Scale. No relation is found between the parent's attitude and self-perception of the children diagnosed with the ADHD. The self-perception level of the children diagnosed with the ADHD is seen higher compared to normal children. It is identified that the ADHD is more common in boys compared to girls as the literature suggests. It is also seen that anxiety level of the parents of the children diagnosed with ADHD is lower. In this study, it is seen that the self-perception level of the children diagnosed with AHDH (the ones given medication) is quite high. Even though no relation is found between the parent's attitude and the self-perception of the children diagnosed with AHDH, the effects of extremely oppressive parent attitude are observed, though being quite weakly. The cooperation of the team consisting of the parent, the education institution and the doctor is important to help these children. Some drugs help the majority of the children, while some children need also an extra training. In this respect the cooperation is vital. This disorder is usually first identified mainly in the education institutions, the teachers should observe and assess the situation very carefully and communicate with the family in a correct and explanatory manner in order to send the children to health centers and relevant institutions. The health centers should inform the families correctly and help them to identify the correct treatment methods, which facilitates to get the positive results. The ministry of health and ministry of education must act together to conduct serious research on this subject. Working sensitively on getting the correct data and being in the scope of a reliable research is very important. By using the findings come up with, it would be a realistic and true approach to review and re-organize the applied special training programs and trainings systems at schools.
