Abdullah b.Ebî Evfâ and his narrations in Sahih

ABSTRACT The sahaba era was the most significant phase in the formative period of Islam. As the first interlocutors of the Qur'an and the protectors of the sunnah, the sahaba were also the first practitioners and inviters of Islam. In this respect, the generation of the sahaba has a great importance in all Islamic disciplines, especially in the field of hadith, which is narrative-based and most of which are not Mutawâtir. Hence, in addition to general studies on the sahaba, studies on each of the sahaba and their narrations are of great academic value. Hundreds of sahaba played vital roles in the preservation and transmission of hadiths to the next generations. In this study, the life of Abdullah ibn Abi Aufa one of the distinguished companions, who served as the guardian of the Prophet (s.a.w.) and was honored with his prayers, and his hadith narrations found in Sahîhayn are discussed. The life of Abdullah ibn Abi Aufa is presented in general terms; his family and tribe, his activities during and after the lifetime of the Prophet (s.a.w.), his personality, his knowledge of the Qur'ân and fiqh are analyzed in the light of hadiths and biographical sources. The narrations of Abdullah ibn Abi Aufa in Sahîhayn have been identified and then categorized under three headings: the narrations that appeared only in al-Bukhârî, the narrations that appeared only in Muslim, and the narrations that appeared jointly in both sources. The Arabic texts of the hadiths, their translations, and their evaluations in terms of the script and the narrators in the senad chains are introduced, and the hadiths are discussed and evaluated in terms of content. About ninety-five of the hadiths narrated by Abdullah ibn Abi Aufa from the Prophet (s.a.w.) have been transmitted to the present day. Sixteen of these hadiths are found in Sahîh al-Bukhârî and eleven in Sahîh al-Muslim. While ten of these hadiths are common to both works, five hadiths are found only in Sahîh al-Bukhârî and one hadith is found only in Sahîh al-Muslim. Based on the sources we have access to, the total number of hadiths narrated by him is 117.
