Abstract (EN)
This thesis aims to prove that since the changing security conditions and the new role of the alliance, NATO treaty is subject to be reviewed. The methodology is, to analyze the theory of military intervention through the case study of the Post-Cold War NATO interventions in Bosnia 1995, in Kosovo 1999, in Afghanistan 2001 and in Libya 2010. Key research questions include: As far as post-Cold War conditions concerned, to what extent can military force be an appropriate and effective instrument for solving or averting crises and ensuring respect for sovereignty rights? Are the issued NATO concepts, as some critics argue, too easily abused by powerful states seeking to justify wars fought for self-interested reasons? When we look at the various NATO strategic concepts, whether security conditions changed or not? If yes, how NATO treaty still serves for new challenges? Is there any possibility to revise NATO treaty and how? The thesis will assess the arguments of both proponents and opponents of the concept of international military interventions. The cases were chosen as recent interventions that have often been cited as a good example of variously aimed coalition campaigns, and one which most proponents of the concept supported, at least in principle.
