Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study is to investigate the effect of psychlogical violence (mobbing) on organizational commitment. The study covers the public and private universities in Turkey. However, since its hard to reach to all the universities, I used a sample of universities located in Ankara, İstanbul, İzmir and Eskişehir. The effect of mobbing on organizational commitment is analysed using the surveys applied to 408 academicians in public and private universities. Two scales are employed in the study. The first one is Heinz Leymann (1993) scale which is developed to define the causes, reasons and effects of psychlogical violence using 5 groups. The second one is Meyer and Allen (1991) scale which is classified as emotional, normative and continuance commitment.According to the results of the study, academicians that are working in private universities are facing up with the psychlogical violence more than the ones working in public universities. In both type of universities, the size of the emotional commitment is found to be the highest. While there exists a significant relationship between psychlogical violence and emotional and normative commiments, no relationship is found between the mobbing and continuance commitment.Key words: Psychlogical violence, emotional commitment, continuance commitment, normative commitment.
