Effect on students' academic development of intelligent electronic advisory system

Developments of information and communication technology and with reflection to the field of education, the educations which are given face to face are represented as online. Carrying education fields to the online fields makes consulting services out of the class or school area. With representing the face to face consulting as online, occurs the term of ?E-consulting?. So students can contact with their teacher as simultaneously or non-simultaneously.So the terms of place and time for the process of learning at schools had been dilated as online. Thanks to E-consulting, teachers can help students and make them use of teachers experiments out of the school. E-consulting had been smarted with using artificial intelligence and expert systems for making system?s efficiency increased. So the system recognizes the student, analyzes students needs and supports and guidances to provide material for learning. If the system can not give solutions or the student wants to have support from his consultant, the consultant starts up. So the consultants job gets decreased.This work aims develop the system named Intelligent Electronic Guidance System (IEGS) to present constulting system to the inviduals learning styles and to research the effects of the students academic development by applying to the presnt process of teaching.Artificial intelligence, expert system technics and rule-based presentation of information are used for the development of IEGS. IEGS presents learning content that personalized and appropriated to invidual?s level of cognitive information. Also it includes properties to present simultaneous and non-simultaneous consulting service to the inviduals by consultants which are expert in their field.Research is an experimental work using experimental design with pre-test and post-test control group. 60 students had been involved to this research by experimental(n=30) and control (n=30) groups. During the research process, control group continued to the present education style and the experimental group continued to the present education and in additionally got involved to IEGS.In the research, as a data collection tool: learning style inventory, achievement tests for three separate teaching modules, general academic achievement test and permanence test had been used. To test the research hypotheses, datas had been evaluated using percent frequency and t-test for the depend-independed groups. The computer-assisted statistical software ?SPSS 19 for Windows? had been used for the anaylzing the quantitative datas from data collection tools.When the research findings are examined, in the achievement pre-tests, there was not any significant difference between experimental and control groups. İn the achievement post-tests, as a result of between two groups, in favor of the experimental group a significant difference was seen. In the permanence test as a result of between two groups, in favor of the experimental group a significant difference was seen. As a result of these, a positive effect had been seen on students academic achievement and permanence by IEGS.Key Words: Intelligent electronic consulting system, Learning styles, expert system, artificial intelligence, E-consulting
