Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to calculate the Turkish validity of the ''Perceived Physical Literacy Instrument''developed by Sum et al. In our study, a five-point likert-type scale with 3 sub-dimensions and 9 items was obtained as a result of the validity and reliability analyses of the Perceived Physical Literacy Scale, which was translated into Turkish from the original. The sub-dimensions were defined as knowledge and understanding, physical competence, self-expression and communication. The scale explains 66.28% of the total variance. Reliability findings of the scale; Cronbach's alpha coefficient = 0.836, McDonald omega coefficient = 0.894 and test-retest coefficient = 0.69. Our scale was randomly selected and applied to 324 faculty members working in 14 faculties and the State Conservatory at Trakya University, with an average age of 47.70 years; 160 of them were female and 164 of them were male. Of the faculty members who participated in our study; 34.6% were Dr. Lecturer, 33% were Assoc. Prof. Dr., 33% Assoc. Prof. Dr. and 32.4% Prof. Dr., and their tenure at the university ranged from less than 4 years to 30 years or more. In our study, the perceived body literacy levels of individuals who reported health problem limiting physical activities were found to be significantly lower than healthy individuals. The perceived body literacy level of individuals in the groups who spent longer time in academic life was found to be higher than individuals in other groups. There was no significant relationship between the perceived body literacy level of the participants and their age, gender, titles, units they worked in, duration of work, body mass index, smoking, alcohol use and chronic diseases. In conclusion, the data obtained from our study reveal that the Perceived Physical Literacy Instrument translated into Turkish is a valid and reliable measurement tool for adults with a high level of education in our country. There is a need for new studies to support our scale with validity and reliability analyses in broader communities, as well as more comprehensive research addressing the effects of physical literacy on health. Key words: Physical literacy, health literacy, exercise, scale, validity
