Abstract (EN)

Objective:In this study, the severity of alcohol dependence, psychopathological features, tolerance to withstand mental and physical distress of the individuals who were diagnosed with Alcohol Use Disorder and who were in the process of treatment were investigated. The main purpose of this study was investigate the relationship between alcohol dependence severity, psychopathological features, and psychological and physical stress tolerance and to evaulate the role of these variables in the treatment process. Methods:The sample of the study consisted of 50 inpatients diagnosed with Alcohol Use Disorder in Manisa Health and Diseases Hospital Alcohol Substance Treatment Center(AMATEM). Result:A positive significant relationship was found between the severity of alcohol dependence and each of the psychopathological features measured in our study. While there was a negative correlation between the severity of alcohol dependence and distress tolerance which indicates the ability to withstand mental distress, there was no significant relationship between discomfort tolerance, which indicates the ability to withstand physical distress. There was a negative correlation between each of the psychopathological features and distress tolerance, but there was no correlation between discomfort tolerance. Conclusion:The findings obtained in our study manifest that psychopathological features and the ability to withstand mental distress are the variables that should be considered in alcohol use disorder. It was concluded that the studies aimed at regulating the psychopathological features and increasing tolerance to distress in alcohol patients in the treatment process will have positive results in terms of treatment success and maintenance of remission.
