Abstract (EN)

The purpose of the present research is to investigate the emotional abuse perceptions of "adults with alcohol use disorder" which they have experienced with their parents during infancy and adolescence and to assess the correlation between alcohol use disorder and emotional abuse perception in infancy and adolescence. The research was carried out at the 3. Service of Anatolia Clinics of Istanbul Balıklı Rum Hospital Foundation with the participation of total 62 patients comprising 50 males and 12 females between the ages of 24 and 70 who were being treated for alcohol use disorder. During the research, Personal Data Questionnaire developed by the researcher, The Beck Depression Mesaure developed by Dr. Aaron T. Beck et.al (1961) have been used. In order to assess the emotional abuse perceived from the parents, F. Erkman who is one of the developers of the measure has been primarily contacted for required permission and the Parents -Juvenile Relations Mesasure developed by other esteemed researchers namely M. Alantar, (1988, 1989); N. Bayraktar, (1990); B. Vardar, (1994); M. Çeşmeci and H. Kılınç., (1999), has been applied. During statistical analysis, Frequency and Percentage ranges; Shapiro-Wilk; Spearman rho Correlation; Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis tests have been drawn upon. During the study it has been predicted that % 93.8 of the patients diagnosed with alcohol use disorder are domestic users and that the handing down by the role-models is being perpetuated by normalizing the domestic use of alcohol . Research has also shown that % 22.6 of the domestic dispute and conflicts are arising from alcohol and the percentage of divorced or separated parents thereof is % 30.4. Furthermore, it has been viewed that during infancy and adolescence era the emotional abuse perceived from the father scored 399,00±60,19 while perception from the mother was 393,00±64,03. The negative impact of the perceived emotional abuse from the parents has been found to increase the symptoms of depression experienced during use of alcohol in adulthood. It has also been detected that the effect of emotional abuse on depression level perceived from mothers with lower education level is 35.98, whereas the corresponding score from higher education background mothers is 19.25. In fathers with lower education case, the effect of perceived emotional abuse on depression level score has been found to be 35.81, whereas the corresponding score from those with higher education is 24.45. As a result of the research it has been assessed that the patients who were being treated for alcohol use disorder were experiencing symptoms of the depression developed during excessive use of alcohol very intensively. Furthermore, participants who were receiving "inpatient treatment" have been found to have suffered intensive emotional abuse and negligence during infancy and adolescence. Key words: Infants, adolescents, emotional abuse.
