Abstract (EN)

Kızıl Bey served as the marcher lord in the principality of Ankara under the commands of Anatolian Seljuk State Sultans I. Izzeddin Keykavus (1211-1220) and I. Alaaddin Keykubad (1220-1237). During his time in Ankara, he constructed a waqf complex that included a madrasa, mosque, and shrine. With the augmentation of the people around this waqf complex, a neighborhood was developed later in the process. The life of Kızıl Bey, the waqf complex he founded, and the Kızıl Bey Neighborhood that sprang up around this waqf complex will be examined in this study. The fact that there has not been a large-scale independent research of Kızıl Bey has been a major factor in developing the thesis that will be unveiled. In this regard, the compilation-scrutinizing approach, one of the qualitative research methodologies, was adopted when producing the study. Sharia registers were mostly employed in the study. The informations about Kızıl Bey Waqf and Neighborhood collected from the şeriyye registries were categorised and summarized. There are several villages and hamlets in Ankara that belong to the waqf, according to the Tahrir Books of 1463, 1522 and 1571. Another problem that has been resolved is that the dowry goes to the founder's children. However, over the course of history, the waqf's buildings have been subjected to numerous repairs. For centuries, foundation staff known as erbâb-vezâif worked in waqf structures. Waqf structures began to fall into disrepair in the 1830s, and waqf personnel other than trustees did not assume office in the waqf during this period. Tahrir Books from the XVIth century may be used to track the historical adventure of the Kızıl Bey Neighborhood and Şeriyye Records can be used to go beyond the XVI. century. Neighborhood that contains many religious and social structures has started to been abandoned since the first quarter of the XIX. century. Today, the area where the neighborhood is located corresponds to the Ulus neighborhood and buildings belonging to the first years of the Republic such as the TBMM, Ziraat Bank, Palas Hotel are located in this area. Keywords: Ankara, Kızıl Bey, Kızıl Bey Neighbourhood, Kızıl Bey Madrasa, Waqf, City.
