Old Uighur poems in terms of semantics

In this study, a semantic research is conducted on poetry, which is one of the literary products of Old Uighur Turkish. The period, mainly nestling creations that have Buddist and Manihaist roots, is full of studies that were written with efforts of enlightening and disseminating religion. Poetries, which are one of most effective means of enlightening and disseminating religion, were orally conveyed to the society in Uighurs. The poetry corpus, which is composed of translations from different languages and copyright works, consists of poetries with beginning rhymes and without beginning rhymes in terms of form. In order to make a proper semantic study from the texts available, primarily, the poetries need to be properly translated from Old Uighur Turkish to Turkey Turkish. This study, beginning from the translations of available texts, aims to correct mistakes and supply the deficiencies, thus texts are tried to predispose for semantic research. Poetry texts, which are examined with word semantic methods, are interpreted separately by the procedures of meaning range, figure of speech, imageries and emotion value, connotation, polysemy, repetitions, synonymy, antonymy, conceptual field and metaphors, synecdoche and so on. Poetry texts, having deep and wealth meaning, are tried to make comprehensible with the help of various explanations to arrive at the exact meaning. Being decisive on meaning because of the indirect binding effect of each word to the other word increases the significance of semantic research in poetry examinations comprised of word order. When it is said poetries of Old Uighur Turkish, poetries having beginning rhymes are come to mind in general. On the other hand, poetics which are without beginning rhymes and where the harmony is gained with syntax also constitute an important half of poetry texts of Old Uighur Turkish. Although these poetries are differentiated in structural regard, when they are examined, very little differences, which are generally based on the preferences of poets, are observed between them.
