Abstract (EN)

In this study, focusing on the framework of humor translation, the political and societal humorous elements in Aziz Nesin's works Ölmüş Eşek, Memleketin Birinde, Surname, and Tek Yol were examined in terms of how they were translated by the translator Abdulkadir Abdelli, using Peter Newmark's translation methods and procedures. Within the scope of Hans J. Vermeer's and Katharina Reiss's Skopos Theory and Christiane Nord's Function plus Loyalty approach, the potential differences in terms of purpose between the source texts and target texts were analyzed, and the level of loyalty of the translator to their partners (the source-text sender, the target-text addressees, and initiator) in the translation process was evaluated. Furthermore, the periods in which the source texts were written and the translations were made were examined in terms of the similarities and differences. Aziz Nesin's role in the Arab world was scrutinized, and the possible reasons behind the surge in translations of Aziz Nesin's works in Syria in the 1990s were investigated. The overall aim of this research is to evaluate Turkish-Arabic political and societal humor translations within a functional theory framework, shed light on the role of the translator in this process, and reveal the importance of translation as a means of surpassing censorship.
