Abstract (EN)

This study examines the historiography in Basra, one of the most important cities of the Islamic world in the first two centuries of Hijri. In the two centuries mentioned, Basra made great contributions to the formation of Islamic thought in terms of its cultural environment and geographical location. The appearance of the first theological sects, the first ascetic movements and the first Muslim philosopher in this city reveals his role in the formation of Islamic thought. This study of ours reveals the effects of this rich scientific and cultural environment of Basra on historiography through the historians of Basra and their works. In the first part of the study, the political and cultural environment of Basra in the first two centuries of Hijri was briefly mentioned, and then the factors that started historiography in Basra were discussed. In the second part, information about the types of historiography found in Basra is given and the works belonging to these types are introduced. The last part of the study deals with the lives and scientific studies of historians who grew up in Basra in the first two centuries of Hijri.
