Abstract (EN)
Objective: Our study is aimed to compare the clinical efficacy of the resin infiltration system (ICON-DMG, Hamburg, Germany), which has been used in recent years, in the treatment of developmental enamel opacities and orthodontic treatment-related white spot lesions on the vestibular surfaces of permanent anterior teeth with fluoride varnish (Duraphat-Colgate-Palmolive Co. New York) application to white spot lesions by using DIAGNOdent Pen and ICDAS II criteria. Method: Our study involved 66 patients older than 8 and younger than 18. Materials were applied to 132 permanent anterior teeth with demineralised and hypomineralized opaque lesions on their vestibular surfaces. Lesions were evaluated before, right after, 1 and 3 months after the materials applied. ICDAS II criteria were used to assess the performance of the materials in the masking opaque lesions. The structural changes which occur in the lesions were evaluated by using DIAGNOdent Pen device. The data obtained from this study was evaluated with SPSS program. Results: There was a statistically significant decrease in DIAGNOdent Pen scores in all groups after the application of the materials, but it was found that this decrease was significantly higher in the ICON group (Group 2) compared to the other groups. A further significant difference in the DIAGNOdent Pen scores obtained before and after administration in all groups continued between the scores obtained before administration and the scores obtained at month 1 and month 3 (p = 0.0001). There was a significant difference between the ICDAS II scores obtained before, after, 1 and 3 months after the application of the materials in each group, when compared with each other (p = 0.0001). As a result of the binary comparisons made to determine the group from which the difference originated, it was determined that the difference was derived from the ICDAS II scores obtained from Group 2 (p <0.001). Conclusion: According to our results, ICON resin infiltration system has been successful in the treatment of white spot lesions and developmental enamel opacities, especially when the ICDAS II criteria and DIAGNOdent Pen values are taken into consideration, but it is especially effective in the treatment of white spot lesions. However, there is a need for extensive clinical trials to evaluate the long-term success of the material.
