The effect of computer assisted learning towards achievement and attitude at physics education

The Effect of Computer Assisted Teaching on Student Achievement andAttitude in Physics EducationBülent BAŞARANSUMMARYI this study, the effects of computer assisted learning and traditional learning methodson student achievement and attitude is investigated comparatively.The study was carried out at physics department of faculty of arts and science at DicleUniversity. Students at their third year were subjected to an ?achivement test? related to ?OneDimensional Potentials? and ?atitutes towards computers scale? that was developed by Deniz(1995) was applied as a pre-test. The results of the accumulation of the both tests did notrevealed statistically any significant difference between the two groups.. The results obtainedare summaried below ;The comparison of the teaching methods applied yielded meaningful difference withinthe groups when accumulated points from pre and last tests were considered.The result shows traditional teaching method was more effective in helping gainingknowledge and application related behaviours, while CAL was more effective in gainingretention related behaviours.There was not any difference between two groups both in the total points gained from?Attitudes towards computer scale and in sub-scales when pre-and last applications wereconsidered.This indicates that CAL students changed their attitude in favour of using computersin education and teaching.The analysis of these dimensons revealed this there was a meaningful difference in?using computer in education an teaching? in favour of CAL. In other dimensions and thetotal points of attitutes towards computer any meaningful difference was not detected..
