Relationship between personality traits and classroom discipline methods of a group of teachers: Sample of Sarıyer

In this study it is aimed to determine whether there is a differentiation between the discipline methods which are connected to gender, marital status, the number of children, working years, the number of students and school type of the class and branch teachers who are working in kindergarten and primary schools, also to reveal the relationship between the discipline methods used in the classrooms and personality traits. The participants were 240 class and branch teachers who have been working in the primary and kindergarten schools in Sarıyer in İstanbul. Comparison type of survey that is one of the associational survey patterns was used in this study. An information form that was developed by the researcher to collect the demographic variables, Eysenck Personality Scale and Classroom Discipline Methods Scale were used.In the research non-parametric techniques, parametric analysis techniques, independent group t-test, one-way analysis of variance (Annova), Post-Hoc Scheffe tests, non-parametric Kruskal Wallis test, non-parametric Mann whitney-U test, Pearson Multiplying Moment Correlation analysis were used and expressiveness was tested at the level of 0.5.With the results of this study it is revealed that there is a relationship between demographic characteristics and the discipline methods and personality traits of the class and branch teachers who have been working in kindergarten and primary schools.As a result of the analysis made to determine the relationship between the personality scale and sub-dimensions of the scale of disciplinary practices applied by the teachers in the classroom, it was found that there is a meaningful relationship in the positive way between being extroverted and psychological reward and material reward; in the negative way between lies and psychological reward, social reward and physical reward; in the negative way between neuroticism and psychological punishment and social punishment.Key words: Personality, Classroom Discipline Methods, Teachers, Eysenck Personality Inventory
