Interpretation of family related drawings which are drawn by a group of preschool children

The purpose of this research is to define family perception of 3-6 year old primary school kinder garden children, considering their inner world. In the research, approximately 60 students were asked to make family related drawings. 24 of these drawings which are appropriate for interpretation are selected and students are asked to comment on their own drawings.According to the obtained data, phenomenon of family in the drawings is understood. Some students who have difficulty in expressing themselves verbally, reflected this difficulty in their drawings unconsciously. In parallel, students who are peaceful and have good social relations, provided significant clue about themselves by drawing so many people or by drawing objects representing their success.As it is seen, drawing is reflecting the inner world of the children. Friendship of the children, their position in the family, perception of life and some behaviors that are difficult to be understood by the families, even by themselves are presented in a clearly visible way by drawings. For this purpose, understanding the development stages of children?s drawings, interests and needs of children and artistic potential of them, can provide great convenience to the educators.In this respect, children's drawings have a significant instrumental function in the development and recognition of children as well as treatment of their state of mind.Key Words: Children's drawings, preschool education, art as a game
