Examination of work accidents in a university hospital and sorting of measures to be taken by fuzzy Topsis method

The health sector contains many hazards and risks within itself, such as the mining sector and the construction sector, where we hear the most casualty reports in today's news bulletins. Health workers who serve to protect and improve the health of the community may be exposed to occupational accidents and occupational diseases while performing their jobs. Measures must be taken to protect health workers and provide a safe hospital environment. The importance of the subject will emerge once again when it is considered that the product that the employees work in this sector is human and even a small mistake made is not recycled. A literature survey was carried out on occupational accidents and prevention methods that health workers were exposed to and it was found that the studies related to the subject were not sufficient. In the first phase of the study, occupational accidents in which health workers are notified to the workplace health and Safety Unit were examined and the types of occupational accidents were revealed as a result of the examination. These types of accidents include cutting and piercing tool injuries, muscle and skeletal system injuries, violence, chemical and drug exposure, fire and smoke exposure, electric shock, contact with blood and body fluid. In the second phase of the study, the measures to be taken to prevent occupational accidents were sorted by using Fuzzy TOPSIS method, which is one of the multi-criteria decision making methods. According to this ranking, education is the first priority prevention method, but the use of personal protective equipment, implementation of engineering controls and improvement of working times have been other measures.
