Abstract (EN)

The settlement that started with the Trak colonies dating from 1000-800 B.C and became home for different civilizations. Due to 600 A.D , Roman Empire ruled the Thracian Region, left several permanent artifacts by constructive activities. The most important of these Via Militaris , which connects the old Capital Rome with the new capital Constantinople via Belgrade (Singidunum). This route , which was used actively about 2.000 years , was repaired at different times by Ottoman Empire , the successor , and used in Balkan campaigns. Traveler journeys which was written in the 13th and 14th centuries indicates that Via Militaris road was used and well-maintained bridges were built , existing road (Via Militaris) and bridges were repaired in various times. Considering that the Roman Empire as well as Ottoman Empire had given a strategic importance to Thracian Region , it is possible to built bridges at early dates on rivers which are mostly found in Ergene Basin. The architectural character of Büyükkarıştıran Bridge has 16th century , classical Ottoman architectural features. In addition , attributed to Mimar Sinan by monument inventory and various academical studies. However , it is probable that the bridge will be dated back top pre- Sinan period by evaluating the bridge in terms of importance of the region not to its architectural character. Due to architectural character , thought that the bridge had extensive repairs in 16th century. Within the scope of the study , the survey works of Büyükkarıştıran Bridge was made , the damage and alterations was determined and the main history of bridge which is base of the reconstitution was prepared and the restoration and conservation Project was drawn.
