Work stress and burnout in working life

The aim of this study is to determine the factors that affect employee stress and burnout level and the positive contributions of the prevention of this observed work-related stress and burnout to the individual life and organisations' climates. The study is divided into two parts. In the first part, the definition of stress, its causes and symptoms and also studies on stress are given. In the secon part of the study, burnout is defined and its personal/enviromental reasons are examined. Results of the both domestic and foreign studies on burnout has shown that there have not been enough domestic studies regarding burnout and in order to prevent career dissatisfaction, the studies on burnout need to be expanded. As the result of the study, it is found that the work stress increases the individuals' level of burnout. In the study, it is also determined that the relationship between stress and burnout is exceptionally important in the health care industry because of its subjective conditions. It is found that the stress and burnout level differ significantly according to profession, wage, working system and department of work. Stress and burnout concepts is mostly analyzed from the point of employees and afterwards the obtained data is examined specifically according to the healthcare personnel.
