Religion and values education in cartoons: Examples of Diyanet TV's cartoons

This research is a study examining the use of religious cartoons in religion and values education. Especially the usability of the cartoons produced by Diyanet TV in education of religion and values and their usability in formal education were investigated. The selected cartoons are; Dedemin Öyküleri, Yusuf'un Dünyası, Şeker Hoca. Certain episodes of these three cartoons have been examined from various perspectives. First part of the study consist of a theoritical study. At this point, brief information is given about mass media, cartoons and their features, the relationship between children and cartoons, the historical development processes of cartoons, the concepts of religion and value, religious education and values education approaches. In the second part the for this research the certain episodes were examined and evaluated. The general features of the cartoons, character analysis and the themes of cartoons are evaluated in this part. Furthermore usability of the cartoons in formal education were also examined.
