Third grade students and their parents/guardians in the province of Burdur in 2015-2016 school year, constitutes the quantitative data collection working environment. Cartoons and children's books that kids love to watch and read are determined by conducting a survey designed by researcher for children and parents, to be used as quantitative data. Quantitative data analysis is done by SPSS. As a result of quantitative research, local origin and loved book Keloğlan, nonlocal origin book Diary of a Wimp Kid, local origin cartoon Rafadan Tayfa and nonlocal origin cartoon Super Wings is determined and used for qualitative research. To analyze the content of the cartoons and children's book "Developmental Message in Documents Evaluation Form", which was designed by the researcher, is used. It is indicated that children's book and cartoons with intensive developmental messages are liked more than the others by children. As a result of the examination of determined local and nonlocal works for developmental messages, it is noted that highest frequency of developmental messages is found in nonlocal origin book Diary of a Wimp Kid while the lowest frequency is found in nonlocal origin cartoon Super Wings. Most repetitive field is the physical and psycho-motor developmental field while the least repetitive one is sexual developmental field. Local origin children book Keloğlan possesses the highest frequency in cognitive development field while physical and psycho-motor developmental field are found in nonlocal origin children book Diary of a Wimp Kid. The highest frequency developmental messages are in the field of personality and social development for both local and nonlocal origin cartoons. It is thought that the developed standards can ensure the developmental messages in children's book and cartoons to be more suited to children's developmental features, which would contribute to the works done for children to be more active.
