The evaluation of nutrition status and life quality of individuals with celiac disease

This study conducted studies of individuals with celiac disease in order to evaluate their nutritional status and life quality between February - May 2020 by online interview method in Istanbul province was carried out. A group of 72 women and 21 men with the age 18-57 was researched. A questionnaire with 18 question about the Socio-demographic situation, the perspective to gluten free diet and awareness of celiac disease was prepared due to previous studies. Celiac Disease Health related Quality of Life Questionnaire (CDQ) which is 28 questions is used to evaluate the quality of life. The intake of nutrients of patients was determined by 3 days (2 weekdays, 1 weekend day) providing information in advance by researcher. According to the information from the research %80,6 of the participants are fully adaptable, %17,2 of the participants are usually adaptable, %2,2 of the participants are rarely adaptable to the gluten free diet. Considering the BMI of the participants 10 of them are under 18,5 49 of them are between 18,5 and 24,9, 22 of them are between 25 and 29,9, 12 of them are between 30 and 34,9. When the compliance of the patients to the diet on the quality of life scale was evaluated, there was no significant difference in any sub-dimension (emotional factor, social factor, gastrointestinal factor, anxiety factor) and overall scale score according to gluten-free diet compliance(p>0,05). As a result; there was no significant difference in individuals' quality of life during the gluten-free diet. In this case, it is thought that it may be beneficial for individuals and their families to be educated by dieticians and other healthcare professionals about celiac disease.
