Abstract (EN)

Aim: There is limited literature on the treatment of cryptosporodiosis in calves with neonatal diarrhea. In these studies, evaluations were made on the basis of diarrhea only, regardless of etiological causes and without determining the disease factors. Materials and Methods: In order to fill the gap in the literature and for this purpose, calves with clinical findings of neonatal diarrhea in our faculty clinic (n=20) were prediagnosed with rapid test kits working with solid-phase immunochromatography method. 1) collection of fresh feces directly from the rectum of each calf, 2) antigen determination with demographic data recording and rapid test kit, 3) sample transfer to the laboratory, 4) fecal flotation with Sheather's sugar solution, 5) microscopic examination after preparation of stool smear and treatment with modified Ziehl–Neelsen acid-fast dye, was constituted. Results: The cases were grouped primarily for mono-infection, and the calves with co-infection were excluded from the study. Relevant main groups (n = 10 in each group) I. group (infected with Cryptosporidium sp. and silicon dioxide (Zoosorb oral powder) will be administered), II. group (treatment group infected with Cryptosporidium sp. and no molecular agents will be applied) was determined as. Calves with cryptosporodiosis treated with silicon dioxide on the 0th, 3rd, 7th and 10th days of the oocyst numbers geometric mean and standard deviation values were found to be 34079.86±101438.4, 0.000±34351.76, 0.000±3738.58, 0.000±5059.64 (p=0.000), respectively. Conclusion: This change in oocyst numbers can be interpreted to the anti-cryptospodial activity of the silicon dioxide preparation (Zoosorb oral powder). Again, oocyst excretion, which changed significantly (p=0.001) compared to the control group, in calves to which silicon dioxide preparation (Zoosorb powder) was administered on the 3rd and 7th days was related to the therapeutic efficacy. After this point, the effectiveness of silicon dioxide can be discussed in more detail. Keywords: Calf , Crytosporidium, , silicon dioxide
