Religion and value education in national education consils in the Republican Period

Since the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, National Education Councils gathered intellectuals from various circles of the society, exchanged ideas on many issues and took decisions that would change the history of Turkish education. These recommendations, on the other hand, have often been implemented. In this respect, National Education Consils perform a very important task for Turkish National Education. Religious education is an area that has been on the agenda of the country since the foundation of the Republic. Eventhough its place and quality in the curriculum changes, it does not seem possible to ignore religious education in Turkey in formal education for now. When value education is considered as an action that has been carried out since education has existed, it can be said that values education in the Republic of Turkey begins with its history. In this thesis, National Education Councils carried out in the Republican Era are examined in terms of the decisions made about religious education and value education.
