Abstract (EN)

Morphology and quality of one year bare root seedlings of Mediterrenean cypress (Cupressus sempervirens L. var. horizontalis) and Pyramidal cypress (Cupressus sempervirens L. var. piramidalis) were examined to contribute nursery practices of cypress in the MSc thesis. Averages of height were 84 84 cm and 78.9 cm, while averages of root-collar diameter were 8.7 mm and 8.2 mm in Mediterrenean cypress and Pyramidal cypress, respectively. Cupressus sempervirens L. var. horizontalis showed higher height and diameter performances than Cupressus sempervirens L. var. piramidalis. Results of variance analysis showed significant differences (p≤0.05) between Mediterrenean cypress and Pyramidal cypress for the characteristics. Positive and significant (p≤0.05) relations between characteristics were found by results of correlation analysis. All of the seedlings of Mediterrenean cypress and Pyramidal cypress were in quality class for classes of Turkish Standard Institute. Highest unsuitable rates of seedlings were combination of the characteristics in Mediterrenean cypress according to obtained new seedling quality classes in the study. Suitability of the new quality classes was higher than 82% Mediterrenean cypress based on results of Discriminant analysis. Seedlings had the highest unsuitable rate in combination of height and diameter of new seedling quality classes in in Pyramidal cypress, as well. Results of Discriminant analysis showed that succesful rate of new quality classes was higher than 80% Pyramidal cypress.
