Siirt city according to Democrat Siirt newspaper (1953-1961)

Local newspapers are one of the opportunities for access to a wide range of information about a province as it deals with important events in that province. In this context, provincial newspapers are considered as important data sources of related to the economic, social and cultural structure of cities. The aim of this study is to determine the economic, social and cultural structure of Siirt in the light of Democrat Siirt Newspaper. The study covers the years 1953-1961. Newspaper archives related to Democrat Siirt Newspaper were accessed from the Beyazıt National Library. The study which conducted according to aim, determined that the road, water and electricity problems of Siirt between the years 1953-1961 negatively affected the economic and social life. Related developments of these problems which were resolved as a result of works and investment made in this period discussed within the framework of the Democrat Siirt Newspaper.
