Abstract (EN)

This study aims to evaluate state-supported livestock life insurance (SLLI) applications in terms of dairy farms in Burdur province. For this purpose, a face-to-face survey was conducted with a total of 193 farmers, 52 of whom are engaged in dairy farming in Burdur province and have their livestock insured under the state-supported cattle life insurance and 141 of whom are not insured. Descriptive statistics were used to determine the socio-economic, demographic and technical characteristics of the farmers. Binary Logit Model and Chi-Square test of independence were used to determine the factors affecting the reasons for dairy farms to have or not to have state-supported livestock life insurance. According to the research findings, it was determined that the average age of the farmers who had SLLI in the examined enterprises was younger (49.02 years), the average education level was higher (9.73 years), the average animal husbandry experience was lower (22.63 years) and the average cattle number was higher (66.04 head), the average farm land size was higher (150.13 decare), the average property land size was higher (113.67 decare), the average irrigated land size was higher (74.88 decare), the average number of employees was higher (3.50 people) and the rate of keeping business activity records was higher (86.54%). According to the analysis results, it was determined that the increase in the number of cattle in the examined farms increased the probability of having SLLI by 1.06 times, and the use of agricultural credit decreased the probability of having SLLI by 86.80%. According to the results of the Farmer training programs should be implemented for awareness and awareness-raising activities aimed at the adoption and dissemination of livestock life insurance applications in the research area. In addition, the problems experienced before and after livestock life insurance practices should be eliminated and the willingness of farmers to have livestock life insurance should be increased.
