In religious epistemology reason criticism: The example of Soren Kierkegaard

The aim of our study is to examine the problem of religious epistemology, which is one of the problem areas of philosophy of religion, and to discuss the problem of Soren Kierkegaard. Soren Kierkegaard established the existentialist philosophy by criticizing the objectivity brought by the idea of enlightenment and drawing attention to the importance of subjectivity and influenced philosophers who came after him in this sense. Our study consists of an introduction and also three main sections. In the introduction part; The main problem of our study, its sub-problems, its purpose, subject, importance, definitions that are the basis of the research and the life and works of Kierkegaard are included. The first one; Key concepts of religious epistemology are discussed. In the second part; The claim of rationality and modern western thought and historical approaches in religious epistemology have been explored. The views of some philosophers of the period were included. In the third part; Kierkegaard's criticism of the church and reasoning have been studied. Kierkegaard's criticism of reason has been addressed over the problem of subjectivity-objectivity with his criticisms of Hegel; The sacrifice ritual, which is the subject of the book Fear and Trembling, has been discussed in the context of religious epistemology. In the conclusion section, it was concluded that the problem of religious epistemology is still a problem today and the thoughts and criticisms of Soren Kierkegaard are thoroughly evaluated.
