Abstract (EN)
Wind is one of the natural phenomena, which has been a source of inspiration to many artists. Also in Divan Poetry, the wind and the types of the wind has often been mentioned in various regards. In this thesis, the importance of the wind in Divan Poetry, its functions, its new meanings (if there are any), the course and the frequency of its usage according to centuries have been searched by analyzing 50 Divans that have been selected between XIV and XIX centuries. Which of wind's features took place in Divan Poetry, the phrases formed by the wind and the types of the wind, arts that are associated with the wind have been tried to put forward via examples of poems and couplets. In addition, odes and ghazals in which the wind and the types of the wind were used as "redif" have been taken into consideration because of the theme's expanded area of usage and new connotations brought about for poets in these poems. As a weather phenomenon, features of the wind, its importance in the nature, as being one of the four elements, how it blows according to seasons and time periods, its relation with religions and prophets, its characteristics gained between the lover and the beloved are among the main topics that have been examined. Moreover, in this study, the relevance between existed occupations, types, and elements within the Ottoman social life and the wind have been evaluated. How the wind was used in Divan Poetry as an element of simile and imagination through the centuries, on which elaborated study has not been conducted previously, has been tried to be clarified via a text-based, comprehensive, and elaborative examination.
