Clinical and laboratory evaluation in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis who application

Aim: Diabetic ketoacidozis (DKA) is a serious condition with high rates of morbidity and mortality in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Hospitalization due to DKA constitutes about 2 to 8 percent of all cause admissions. İn this study, We aimed to evaulate clinical and laboratuvar characteristics of children admitted with DKA.Materials and Method: Records of 64 children admitted with DKA between january 2005 and july 2009 were retrospectively reviewe and data on clinical and laboratory characteristics of 64 children with the diagnosis of DKA was investigated in detail.Results: Of 64 children with DKA, The mean age was 10,9±3,5,and DKA episodes were most frequently seen in 6?14 age group. DKA episodes peaked in the periods of January-february-march and september-october-november. The mean duration of recovery from acidosis 31,66±21,25,the mean blood glucoselevel at baseline was 541,8±145,03 and the mean initial HbA1c leve was 10,98 ± 2,41.İn this approximately four-year-period Two patient was lost and mortality rate was % 1,5.Conclusion: The patiences with DKA have applied with varios metabolic complication. The brain edema is the most fatal among of them. Fulfilling necessary intervention and closely. Following up are saving of life.
