Abstract (EN)

Syriac people are one of the communities that spread in the Anatolian geography and contributed to the cultural diversity with their values. Syriac manuscripts are concrete examples of this diversity in terms of original construction techniques and production methods. From the beginning of the 5th century to the 20th century, the production traditions of Syriac manuscripts were preserved through generations. The codicological analysis of these manuscripts allows this transfer to be examined in a broad perspective. Codicological study of manuscripts encompasses the materials and tools used, writing instruments, book forms, construction techniques, paper properties, text structure, colophon, copying process and dating systems and requires evaluation from many aspects. The data obtained during the codicological examination is also a reference for conservation applications. In this thesis, manuscript no. 2 from the Library Collection of the Syriac Church of Virgin Mary in Diyarbakır was studied. The manuscript is a Fenqitho book written in Syriac. According to the colophon, the copy date is December 1520, the Greek year, corresponding to 1209 Gregorian. The manuscript has a wooden cover and measures 47.6 x 30.4 cm. A codicological analysis of the manuscript, which shows original features in terms of construction techniques, paper properties, ink type, decoration and writing features, has been made. The literature review was supported by data obtained from analysis methods such as XRF and Raman. Conservation was carried out using internationally accepted methods
