The validity and reliability of Turkish form of the Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure scale in nursing students

Purpose: This study has been conducted for the purpose of testing the validity and reliability of the Turkish form of The Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure Scale (Roff and colligues. (1997)) for nursing students. Method: This study was conducted between November 2018 and August 2019 at Ege University Faculty of Nursing. The sample consisted by 520 students who agreed to participate in the study. In this methodological study, the data were collected with Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure Scale. In this study, language, scope and structure validity analysis has been performed for the evoluation of validity and test, retest and internal consistency analysis has been performed for reliability. Findings: Translation and reversetranslation of The Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure Scale was conducted for language validity. 10 experts were consulted for the scope validity and it was seen that the content validity index values ranged between 0,80–1,00. Confirmatory Factor Analysis was performed to ensure construct validity. In this analysis, the confirmity indices were found as Chi-Square =3.02, CFI = 0.92, GFI = 0.91, RMSEA = 0.07 and RMR = 0.04. In order to evaluate the reliability, reliability coefficient of the scale was examined and found as α = 0.938. Reliability coefficients for sub-dimensions of DREEM Scale which are Students' Perceptions of Learning, Students' Perceptions of the Teacher, Students' Perceptions of the Academic Skills, Students' Perceptions of the Learning Environment, Students' Perceptions of the Social Environment has found as α=0.936, α=0,899, α =0,929, α=0.902 and α=0.925 respectively. Conclusion: The Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure Scale has a similar structure to the original scale. The Turkish version is reasonably valid and reliable measurement tool for its application in nursing students.
