Violence tendency in boys between 12 and 18 years old, whose parents are safety members

In recent years, there has been a great increase in violence in our country. The most common types of violence are violence perpetrated within relationships and that young people perpetrate against each other. Every day, news of violence resulting in death in the media creates anxiety in individuals. According to global and regional data, adolescents are one of the most vulnerable groups affected by violence. In this context, the aim of the study is to examine whether the violence tendencies of 12-18 year old boys of law enforcement parents are reinforcing role models in the identity formation process. The universe of the research was composed of male children whose parents worked in Gaziantep Provincial Police Department and resided in Gaziantep between 2022-2023. The study consists of 300 people aged 12-18 years. Within the scope of the research, data were collected with the Socio-Demographic Information Form and Violence Tendency Scale. At the end of the research, it was determined that the level of violence tendency did not change according to the status of the parents being police personnel. It was observed that the violence tendency levels of the participants whose parents were law enforcement personnel and whose parents were not law enforcement personnel were similar. In this context, it is thought that it would be appropriate to strengthen the family communication skills of individuals with a tendency to violence, to be aware of the power sources of the families in case of problems, and to strengthen their relations with their social environment.
