Asbâb al-nuzûl in Abu'l Barakât al-Nasafî's Madârik al-Tanzîl

The thesis focuses on Abu'l-Barakāt al-Nasafī's approach to asbab al-nuzūl in his interpretation named Madārik al-Tanzīl wa Hakāikü't-Te'vīl, which is included in the category of the dirayah tafsirs. The thesis consists of introduction and two chapters. In the introduction, the subject, importance, purpose and method of the research are emphasized first. Then, after giving information about Nasafī's life, his scientific personality and works, the method and sources of his work titled Madārik al-Tanzīl are introduced. Later, the definition of the science of asbâb al-nuzūl is given and an explanation is made about the importance of the knowledge of asbāb al-nuzūl. In the first chapter, Nasafī's style of presenting the narrations of asbāb al-nuzūl in Madārik al-Tanzīl is discussed. The expressions he used to present the narrations are analyzed and his evaluations about the narrations are studied. In the second chapter, the way in which the commentator deals with the asbāb al-nuzul narrations and his method of using resources are examined. Examples are given about all these issues and Nasafī's approach to asbâb al-nuzul is presented. The thesis is concluded by evaluating the data obtained.
