Abstract (EN)

The aim of our study was to examine the relationship between physical activity levels and frailty status of individuals aged 65 and over, registered in family health centers in Edirne city center, and the factors affecting them. The sample of the study consists of 408 individuals aged 65 and over registered in family health centers in Edirne city center. The data were collected with a questionnaire consisting of 12 questions questioning the sociodemographic characteristics and health-related variables of the participants, the FRAIL Scale and the Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly. Females were 54.9% of the participants and the average age of all was 72.47±6.58 years. According to the FRAIL Scale, 17.2% of the participants were found to be frail, 39.7% were pre-frail, and 43.1% were robust. The average score they received from the Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly was calculated as 99.45±74.45. In our study, it was determined that as frailty score increased in the elderly sample in the city center of Edirne, physical activity scores decreased (r=-0.557, p<0.001). Physical activity score was found to be significantly higher in healthy elderly (p<0.001). Age, age classes, gender, marital status, number of children, family structure, place of longest residence, level of education, working status, social security, perceived income level and alcohol use were significantly related to frailty levels. Age, age classes, gender, family structure, level of education, working status, social security and alcohol use were significantly related to physical activity scores. In Family Medicine, which is the first point of access to the health system, it is important to evaluate the elderly population that is prone to frailty. With a holistic approach and comprehensive assessment, the factors that affect the frailty of individuals should be determined, and personalized interventions and suggestions should be made for these factors, aiming for a better state of health, quality of life and functionality.
